Stockpiling For Winter

As Winter fast approaches, our minds start to think about those hearty meals  we love to eat.   Have you thought about stockpiling your cooking and baking ingredients ?  Being ready for the change of season eating will make menu planning easy.  Having everything on hand for stews,  casseroles,  roasts and baked desserts saves money ( avoiding takeaway ),  time ( no unnecessary trips to the supermarket )  and your sanity.

Here's a list of the ingredients I stockpile as the weather cools down -

*  Corn Flour
*  Sugar - white and brown
*  Cocoa Powder - unsweetened
*  Rolled oats and quick oats
*  Tinned fruit for cobbler and crumble desserts
*  Flour - Self Raising and Plain
*  Tinned Soups -tomato,  cream of chicken and cream of celery for casseroles and slow cooking
*  Tinned Tomatoes
*  Tinned Corn
*  Creamed Corn
*  French Onion Soup Mix
*  Chicken Noodle Soup Mix
*  Curry Powder
*  Coconut Cream
*  Gravy Powder
*  Stock Powder - vegetable,  chicken and beef
*  Custard Powder

What do you stockpile for Winter cooking and baking ?

    I stock up on many of the same things you do. I also do green chilis, tomato paste, canned beans, & canned milk. Mostly stuff for soups. I make up mixes for several things. Cream of chicken soup, onion soup, chili spices, enchilada spices, & sometimes things like muffins.

    I don't use the oven much in summertime, but when the weather cools, I enjoy baking so I also like extra flour, sugar, brown sugar, etc. in case I get the urge!

  2. Great list. I haven't bought brown sugar in years, I stock extra white sugar and molasses and make my own. 1-2 teaspoons of molasses per cup of sugar to start then add more to get the taste I want. Mixing it with a stand mixer or hand held mixer until most of the molasses clumps are very small or gone. I make 4 cups at a time and store it in an air tight container, I've had it last 6 months before it starts to dry out.

  3. I always stock canned tomatoes as I feel like I can cook multiple things with those on hand. Your about to come into my favorite time of year, fall and winter while here in the U.S. we are starting spring/summer.

    1. I usually buy Foster Clarkes but have been known to buy the generic brand.

  5. Thank you, I usually buy white wings (corn flour base) but was thinking of mixing it with the generic to make a cheaper version😀
