Hand Made Card Ideas January 2016

A group of ladies from the Cheapskates Club have been getting together every couple of months to make cards.  We've been learning new ideas and designs under careful instruction from fellow Cheapskater Pamela.  We bring all our own equipment to share around which is wonderful for those of us who are gradually building up our " tool box ".  There's lots of talking,  tea drinking and eating too.

Some of us were newbies to card making when we first started this group but Pamela has been gentle on us.  There are millions of ideas out in internet . pinterest and google land but I think we've come a long way.

Here are some of my latest designs made about a week ago at this group.  I hope these ideas will help others who are just starting out or those who are wanting new ideas.  There is nothing overly hard about making these cards.

Using old sheet music
Using scraps of paper and card
Using old curtains and ribbon
Using an old dictionary
Baby cards or invitations
If you are starting out in card making I'd encourage you to get together with some other card makers.  It's just wonderful to learn and share with each other.

  2. Dear Wendy, These are beautiful cards! I am just getting back into card making and this has given me new ideas. I will have to keep an eye out for an old dictionary. Also, how did you attach the lace to the card? --Kelsey

    1. Kelsey, I used a glue stick to glue the lace. Big W has good glue sticks on sale for $1.21 each. Aldi has packs of four slightly smaller ones for about $1.80. Now is the time to stock up as the prices are too dear any other time of the year.

    2. Please ask at your local op shop for any old books that they are throwing out because they're unsaleable. I'm a volunteer but some books are falling apart when they are donated so I have no choice but to bin them

    3. Lace can also be attached with double-sided tape or liquid glue ~ xo

  3. Hi Wendy,
These cards look fantastic. This is one craft I am wanting to do, seriously considered coming but I can't get it in my head space at the moment. A newbie to your blog and cheapskates I am just starting out. I love your blog, so much information to read and working out how I can apply it to our family is where I am at the moment. Keep the posts coming looking forward your ideas. Blessings Janine

    1. Janine, we'd love to have you at a card making day. I do understand about having the right head space for it. I was like that with jam making, soap making and card making. You need to be ready for it to enjoy the new skill.

I made 13 cards yesterday, all using cardboard and craft items I already have. I'll post some pics and put them on my blog :) have a great week! x

  6. Hi Wendy,

Loved making these cards and all the cards we've made.
We've all come such along way in our card making and I love the ideas of using things we have around the home ie: the old dictionary etc...

    1. Hi Leigh. I have an artistic mind but not the experience when it comes to card making. I'm always excited to be shown new ideas that use what we have on hand.

  9. Hi Wendy ,
Love your cards definitely agree with carol hehe
Next card day I'm going to have to bring in my quilling stuff
If I manage to find them otherwise a tooth pick or skewer should work.
I should take pictures of the things I have made using those tools
    Have a lovely week Wendy

  10. I love your cards. I have a lot of supplies languishing upstairs--I should get them out and make some cards. I especially like the music one, since I'm a piano teacher! The problem I have when I make cards is that they often look home-made in a NOT good way, especially when I use rubber stamps. Then, I feel discouraged. These ideas look simple enough to duplicate and they look lovely, so I may try again. I love the idea of giving them as gifts, as long as they turn out as nice as the ones shown here:)

    1. Becky, I was the same when I tried card making many years ago. They looked too hand made to give to any one. The internet wasn't around then for give ideas.

You could try stamping the inside of the card first or stamping onto some card stock then cutting it out. Also try goggling card sentiments. You could print them off then cut them out.

I look forward to seeing some photos on your blog.
