It's time to reveal another three things that bring joy to your life. For me it's not the latest phone, fashion trend or expensive overseas holiday. I find pure joy in the simple things in life. Here's my three things for February -
* Picking produce from my garden. I just love to spend time in my garden, pulling a weed here and there and picking the lovely fruits and vegetables to feed my family. This also makes me feel rich as it costs very little to grow our own.

* Having a lovely cup of tea with some home baking. I'm not into the fancy teas that are the latest trend. Give me a good strong cup of normal / English breakfast tea with a little sugar and milk and I'm happy. A homemade muffin, scone or biscuit finishes off a relaxing morning tea for me every day.

Peanut Butter Choc Chip Biscuits |
|
A good cup of tea in my Grandma's cup and saucer, |
* Having a stockpile of good wholesome food in my pantry, fridge and freezers. I feel happy knowing that I can afford to buy ingredients to cook and bake for my family. I'm happy and content knowing that if the supermarkets closed unexpectedly or weather or illness prevented me from grocery shopping, I could provide many, many meals and not have to worry.

What three things make you happy ?
Hi Wendy, Just like you, I love going out into my garden and picking produce we've grown. Yesterday DS1 and I were tidying up the Tomatoes when underneath some tomatoes, I found Beans growing and my snowpeas have regrown(pulled these out months ago). Bonus!!!!
ReplyDeleteLove a cup of tea with milk and a bit of sugar. Like you, none of those fancy teas and even better with a homemade bickie, slice or cake.
February makes me happy because I'm back into routine with the boys back at school so as it's good weather, spring cleaning and it's a shorter month, so less spending. Blessing, Maureen
I'm all for less spending. I'm participating in the Cheapskates No Spend Month.
DeleteWendy this post really resonates with me. I enjoy finding ways to treat myself that cost nothing. Today I've found a couple of gorgeous high fashion videos to watch as it's my birthday and I know there's no high fashion in my immediate future...lol! But that doesn't stop me enjoying LOOKING! I have a ballet dancing daughter too, and going to the ballet is not something we can afford all that often, but we can watch to our hearts content on YouTube. Finally, being in my home and especially my kitchen makes me happy. Since I was a toddler, cooking has been finely intertwined with love in the home. Cooking makes me feel connected to my Mum and Nanna, both long departed this Earth, and makes me feel that they are still with me. Healthy meals are my ultimate way of showing my family I love them too. Mimi xxx
ReplyDeleteMimi, I love my kitchen too. I'll love it even more when it's renovated into a country farmhouse style kitchen.
Delete1. My husband and I taking our grandchildren for walks. 2. Cooking something fresh and healthy for my family 3. Working in my garden.
ReplyDeleteA wonderful list Diana.
DeleteYou certainly do have strong tea by the looks of the cup of tea, Wendy. Lots of simple things make me happy like my garden, the birds that visit each day that make me laugh and good health to name a few.
ReplyDeleteI think the tea was stronger than usual because it came from a tea pot.
DeleteHi Wendy, I feel exactly the same as you on having a well stocked pantry and freezer. It just makes me happy and gives me peace of mind. I think you and I are kindred spirits as I too love to sit down to a cup of tea (no fancy flavours for me, I keep an eye out for my favourite Dilmah loose leaf tea to go on special and stock up on it) in a nice cup and saucer and something I have baked. I love to bake so that also makes me happy. I love the smell of washing just off the line and I also love retiring to a freshly made up bed at night. These simple things make me happy. I also love reading your posts Wendy - this also makes me happy. Hope you have a lovely week. Warm Regards, Sue
ReplyDeleteIsn't it great to find like minded people ?
DeleteWendy,
ReplyDeleteThings that make me happy are: when I finish my housework and can sit down in peace with a cuppa in a clean house,
Being with my family , in the evening relaxing.
The feeling of satisfaction after I have put away my shopping, with the knowledge that we have plenty to eat.
A quiet drive in the country.
I know this is four things but I couldn't leave the last one out.
Kathryn
Kathryn, I'm at peace when my house work is done too.
Delete1) Watching our chickens. I spend way too much time just sitting watching them. They are so funny and one of my favourite parts of home.
ReplyDelete2) Trying new recipes and my family loving them. There's a recipe on the Kidspot website for "Home made Paddle Pops", which are just chocolate custard frozen in icypole moulds. My kids are loving them as a treat after school or dinner, and I love that they cost next to nothing ;)
3) Being a SAHM. I love every day that I get to do things like help with reading at my daughter's school, and today my toddler and I had a lovely visit at home from my dad ("Pop"). It's simple little things that come from being at home that I would miss dreadfully if I were in paid work all week.
I love watching my chickens too. It's like watching a cartoon.
DeleteSeeing my granddaughter, either in person or on facetime makes me the happiest.
ReplyDeleteCoffee makes me happy, just plain black no frills coffee
Warm sunny days make me happy. (I am not crazy about all the recent cold)
Technology is great for keeping in touch isn't it Anne.
DeleteWendy Im sure we are related or something. Everything you said is me, except my tea is also strong with milk no sugar. Otherwise identical! I love picking fruit, making jam, building up my pantry, a cup of tea and a scone or cake!
ReplyDeleteEven our holidays seem similar to yours. Our next planned one is 4 days at a little beach side town. Its a long drive but quiet and gorgeous when we get there. I take a lot of our food with us. We have a lovely time. To me its perfection. No airports no stress, no debt.
I also love grocery shopping and looking for specials. A pot of soup on. Simple things. And being happy and content is the nicest thing in the world! Lovely to read what everyone lists too.xxx
I think there are a few of us here that are related Annabel.
DeleteHi Wendy
ReplyDeleteI love that you use your Grandma's cup, something you can cherish and your home-made biscuits looks so yummy!!!
I too like to hang out in my mini orchard picking fruit from my trees it gives me a real sense of achievement.
My Grandma gave me a ring that my father had bought for her and that is something that I cherish a lot that makes me happy.
Planning a trip away and finding ways to make savings so we can have a great time away.
All the above things make me happy
The recipe for the biscuits is coming soon Annette
Delete1. My children, their partners, my partner and the thought of forthcoming grand children
ReplyDelete2. My Garden. It is very new but I am starting to get there
3. Creating home made gifts, meals and cards.
Can I add a fourth please?
4. Time for prayer and spiritual encouragement
These are not in any particular order
Great post Thank you
You can add a fourth Mel but don't forget to leave some for next month.
DeleteHi Wendy;
ReplyDeleteReading your blog makes me happy. I live in the US and it is mid winter here. Today it is 27 degrees below 0 F. I am sure you can't imagine such cold. Even schools are closed today and tomorrow due to the cold. So I love reading about summer and your garden, warm weather, and spring cleaning.
My grandchildren and great grandchildren are a joy to me and I am always happy to spend time with them. (one granddaughter and 2 great grandchildren live with me.) Some days I want to run away from home, lol. But most of the time I love being with them.
And meeting my good friend for tea at Miss Mollys Tea Room is such a pleasure. We meet every couple of months and have a lovely lunch, good tea and conversation. Such a happy way to spend a afternoon! Have a great afternoon. Hugs, Nana
Where in the US do you live Nana ? In Melbourne our coldest temperature in Winter would be about 9 degrees celcius and that doesn't happen often.
DeleteMiss Mollys tea room sounds like it would be a lovely place to visit.
Thankyou for your lovely comments.
I love reading yours and everyone else’s comments. My three:
ReplyDelete*Cooking – I love getting creative with new recipes, especially making things from scratch.
*Having an organised home that smells beautiful and clean (and looks great!).
*Keeping fit and healthy with free outdoor activities like walking and jogging.
Have a great weekend – Christina xx
A wonderful list Christina.
Delete5 weeks holiday coming up soon - will just be staying at HOME and going nowhere...will enjoy working in my home all day everyday
ReplyDeleteHow exciting - 5 weeks holiday !!!
DeleteLots of things, that cost very little make me happy. These include my husband, my gorgeous grown children and their partners, walking on the beach with my little dog, pottering around in my garden and catching up with my friends with a cuppa and homemade cake. Life is wonderful!
ReplyDeleteHi Wendy,
ReplyDeleteI am going to sound corny but the things that make me happy are: spending time with Hubby, being a housewife and doing the housework. As I said it's corny.
:-)
Not corny at all Linda. Those things make me happy too.
