A Current Affair Story on Monday 29th September 2014

As some of you will know, I've been away for a few days this week.  I can now reveal that I travelled to Brisbane to film a new story for A Current Affair.  The story will be aired on Monday 29th September 2014 at 7.00pm on Channel 9.  I hope you enjoy the new savings tips I share with reporter Ben McCormack as we help Australian families save more money.

If anyone missed the story and would like to see it,  here's the link

  1. That's good news Wendy, I cant wait! It does mean I have to put the TV on to watch it though, but that is perfectly okay ;)

    1. Let's hope you have lots of sunlight for your solar panels so you can turn the tv on. Alternatively, switch all the lights off. We've done that before.

  4. ACA 29th Sept

You stated that Yogurt can be made for $1 per KG
    How so?

    1. By using no name milk powder, sugar, water and a couple of tablespoons of natural yoghurt.. If you make up natural yoghurt using an Easiyo sachet, then take the two tablesppons to start another batch, it costs about $1. If you buy a small tub of natural yoghurt made up to use as a starter, then the cost is a ilttle more.

    2. Wendy, does the milk powder need to be full cream? I have tried different methods of making yoghurt, with varying results. I think I will try your way tonight, as the Easiyo sachets are pretty expensive :)

    3. Tania, it must be full cream milk powder or it won't set well Let me know how you go..

    4. I use my Easiyo yoghurt maker. 1 cup Full Cream milk powder and 1 heaped tablespoon of yoghurt powder (Easiyo or any brand). Never fails. Suz.

    5. Hi Suz, that method all sounds good - how do you store the remaining Easiyo sachet contents until you make it again pls?

    6. I store my remaining Easiyo sachet in it's packet in the freezer.

  6. Loved the show last night Wendy. You need to have your own weekly segment (but perhaps without lots of travel). Hoping there's more! Blessings, Maureen

  7. I missed the show airing but caught up online, and watched a few more of your clips. I can't believe what families were spending at the supermarket! I've been shopping at Aldi for basically everything but meat (we get meat from Tasman's butcher), and on the odd occasions I have to duck into Coles or Safeway I can't get over how much most things cost.

I'm very curious to try yoghurt making too! :)

  8. Hi Wendy, I absolutely loved your story last night, I agree with Maureen they need to make you a weekly segment, and that still wouldn't be enough, it must feel so good helping families! Happy Birthday for tomorrow, God Bless Simone x

    1. Thankyou Simone. Yes it does feel good. If I was weekly I'd run out of material very quickly or people would get tired of me.

  9. It was great seeing you on A Current Affair again Wendy. You are doing a lot of good. I am thinking in terms of "my frugal accomplishments too" everyday and every week I try and write them down. It encourages me! While I am here... I loved your post about organising your pantry and stocking up for Christmas (on Cheapskates $300 a month...) That was my favourite of all time. It got me busy doing the same as I find things on special I need in December. Many thanks. xx

    1. Thankyou Annabel. I'm excited to be stocking my pantry. I think a few readers missunderstood and thought I saw stocking up on Christmas goodies. I'm actually stocking up on everyday items so that I don't have to buy much in December and January.
