Count Your Blessings

Some of you might know of the hymn " Count Your Blessings .  It was a hymn I grew up with and came to mind just recently with the challenges we've been facing.

I thought I'd share a few lines with you as a way of encouraging you if times are tough.  Sometimes it can  feel like there's no hope,  or nothing to be grateful for.  Remembering  our blessings no matter how big or small can be a wonderful way to lift our spirits and give hope to continue on.

Each time I pick food from our garden,  I'm grateful we can eat.
Each time I fill up my car with petrol,  I'm grateful I have the money to do so.
Each time I look in the wardrobe.  I'm grateful I have a choice of what to wear.
Each time I put the heating / cooling on,  I'm grateful I can be comfortable.
Each time I go to work,  I'm grateful for strength to finish the job.
Each time I see Darren,  I'm grateful for love.
Each time I come home,  I'm grateful it's ours.
Each time the girls ring / text / visit,  I'm grateful they are in my life.
Each time I see the sky,  I'm grateful for it's beauty.
Each time I look at my blog,  i'm grateful for the opportunity to share.
Each time I'm blessed,  I'm grateful that God knows our needs.
Each time we need to cut the budget,  I'm grateful for the skills to make it work.

Here are some of the words to the hymn -

Count your blessings, name them one by one,
Count your blessings, see what God has done!
Count your blessings, name them one by one,
Count your many blessings, see what God has done.

Will you count your blessings this week ?

From our garden

The love of my life.

  1. I certainly always try to remind myself of how lucky I am, and to be grateful for most everything in my life. Thanks for the reminder.

  2. It’s one of my favorite hymns as well! I love the verse part that begins:
“When upon life’s billows you are tempest tossed,
When you are discouraged thinking all is lost,
Count your many blessings, name them one by one
And it will surprise you what the Lord hath done!”

It’s always a good reminder when we start to feel deprived or sorry for ourselves and our situation. It’s amazing how after counting our blessings, our attitude and perspective changes to one of gratitude and optimism which takes away the clouds of discouragement!

I find that if I view something as an opportunity to get creative rather than an obstacle or stumbling block to my happiness, the whole situation changes for me!

What a timely reminder to us all, Wendy! Thanks so much for sharing!!! You’ve brightened my day!!

  3. Gorgeous Wendy,

Sometimes we overlook the things we already have and we need to take a step back and reflect, thanks just what I needed.

  6. Lovely post. My husband Michael, passed away almost 2 years ago. " Each time I see Darren. I am grateful for love," warmed my heart. Grace to you and yours Wendy.

  7. Isn't there a saying about lowering your expectations and increasing your appreciation?
When times get tough as they sometimes do, it's great to be able to say " thanks God for all my blessings", and to realise that you really need less than you think to be comfortable in life. There are wants and needs, and if the needs are covered then the rest is gravy 😀

  10. Oh, yes! What a lovely reminder you've posted Wendy of some very beautiful things. AT our place, when we all sit down for dinner in the evening, we have a little ritual. We each tell two things we are thankful for that day. This ranges from "cricket practice outside" to "warm food on a cold night" to "the trees that we see all around." It's not a formal saying of grace but a chance to acknowledge how lucky we are to be safe, warm and loved. Meg:)
