  1. Hi Wendy

Thanks for compiling the grocery specials list. Your time and effort is appreciated.

Wendy I have a question about using electric frying pans. I notice that you seem to use yours in quite a number of meat recipes. I wonder if you could help me re how to use it better. I use it to brown chicken then add vegies and stock to make a casserole. I find it hard to regulate the temperature. It either seems to heat madly or lull off and do nothing. If I don't watch it carefully the liquid evaporates and the bottom of the pan burns. How could I use it better to stop this happening?
I notice you mention making spaghetti bolognese sauce in it as well. Do you only use it to brown the meat or do you complete the sauce in it as well. Also what recipe do you use for spaghetti bolognese?
Sorry to ask so many questions. I was hopeful to make double quantities of spag bol sauce like you do as it would be great to have it on hand when I don't have time to cook at dinner time.

Thanks in anticipation for your time.

    1. Hi Kerrie. Regulating the temperature can be a challenge. I turn the fry pan up to high to brown meat. Then I turn it down to half way when adding veggies and liquid. When everything is combined and cooked well I turn it down to the lowest setting then put the lid on with the vent closed. I still check the food every five minutes or so to make sure there is liquid. another tip is to boil the kettle when cooking in the fry pan. if you need to add liquid, you have it ready and hot from the kettle.

I use the fry pan for spag bol when making a large lasagne or bulk cooking. All of the sauce is cooked in the electric fry pan. The sauce recipe is in the recipe section at the top of my blog and listed as spag bol.

My electric fry pan can hold a triple batch of spag bol sauce which is one kilo of mince and three 410 g cans of tomatoes ( plus seasonings )

    2. Hi Wendy

Thanks for the reply and the tips. I will give them a go next time I use the frypan.
Good to know that I can make a triple batch of spag bol sauce-even better to have two in the freezer for busy days!!

      Thanks again

  2. I have just discovered your blog and I am loving it .
We are struggling at the moment and have had to really tighten our spending

We are just about to move into a house house on a acre block with a massive veggie patch and chicken coup already to go ow and a small green house.

I will be definitely following your blog and tips .

I do have a question we will need to buy gas bottles for the cooking is it cheaper to use an electric frypan ?

    1. It could be. Small appliances can be very cheap to run. A slow cooker is far cheaper than an electric oven.

If you are using your gas stove top, try to bulk cook to make it worth your while. Also put the lids on your pots and turn the gas down.
