  1. Wendy the Doritos at Coles are cheaper than Aldi (have gone up to $1.99 last time I bought them). These are great for nachos, haystacks, dips etc. and keep for just about forever - well not in our house, we eat them, but they store well. Great stockpile price. I always add a packet of corn chips to the Christmas stockings as a treat too - I need to remember to get four packets and put them in the Christmas box.

  2. New to your blog, I think this should go under thrift things. Sometimes thriftshops (Ops?) do sell textile handkerchiefs, new, sometimes even in the original box, for real cheap. People like to use paper handkerchiefs, I hate them, they are thrown away in open wastebaskets at offices, spreading their bacteria more then textile ones in pockets or ladiesbags, just saying. Besides, they always stick in pockets adhearing to the wash, yuck. I like textile ones, some have childrens colouring books figures or (even) Mic key Mouse etc. You can use them for packaging small gifts with a ribbon (then they can be used by the child as a hanky later), you can sew them onto stronger textile, f.i. coloured sheets that have been worn in the middle cut of quarters, to make a throw or a quilt. Endless possibilities, as there are too for textile ladies hankies, you can even paste a rose or honeybee cut-out to paper and then make a card that is quite unusual. I always buy hankies that are new (or almost new) at thrifts, wash them on high heat after soaking in washing soda. Hey, I might be thrifty, not stupid. When I buy a really good secoond-hand kitchen utensil or cup and saucers, some people say: "Yuck, that is already used by someone, maybe that person was ill ". I answer: I heatwash it, bleach or soda it, wash it hot again, I am sure then it is safe healthwise. Do you take your own dish, cup/saucer, glass, spoon etc. to a restaurant? because all there is used by an other person before you and you do not know if their dishwasher did a good job. Besides, inherited goods are also secondhand, if you think about it and relatively new second hands might be the antiques of the future. I do not feel I have to defend thriftshopping, but sometimes I just can not stand the wrinkly noses and rolling eyes. Cheap (they are at a ld i and l i d l) fleece baby or animal blankets can also be used in multiple not-the-goal ways. I like thinking outside the box, my mother and grandmothers and aunts had to, moneywise as they were. DM
